personal identity on the net - The University of Iceland

Message from: Dr. Haukur Arnthorsson

I'm planning a project in the field of personal identity on the net. It is possible that our projects have something in common. Is it possible or is it too late - to consider me as a partner in your FP7 proposal?
Please contact me by e-mail, with best regards,

The University of Iceland was established 17th June 1911, on the centenary of the national hero of Iceland, 19th century Icelandic statesman Jón Sigurðsson, usually referred to as "president". The University of Iceland offers nearly four hundred undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. The university is organised into five academic schools, and 25 faculties. The university offers diverse programmes on all levels and the University of Iceland is the only university in the country offering undergraduate and graduate studies in all the main disciplines.  In addition, the University of Iceland is an internationally renowned research university and University of Iceland academics have received a great deal of international recognition for their scientific work. A large number of research findings by scientists from the University of Iceland is considered ground-breaking in its field. The university operates around 40 research institutes, and research-based graduate studies are also offered.

BSI, a Greek consulting company

My name is Paul Hampson and I represent BSI, a Greek company which is interested in joining the “CBRNE Crisis Management Federated Response & Training” project you presented at the FP7 SEC 2009 call info day. We are particularly interested in the implementation and extension of workflow and decision support modules for crisis management and the integration of advanced identity verification tools. BSI has several years of experience in preparing research proposals, managing international research consortia and participating in EC research projects (e.g. SPADE – decision support for airport capacity management, BioREs – decision support for investments in biogas produced from waste, ArcSite - wireless, personalised, location and context sensitive system on European archaeological sites, ECH:TOPICC – online content management system for European cultural heritage, etc). Our main areas of expertise include:

·         Work-flow and decision support systems (DSS).

·         H/W devices and custom s/w for Access Control (human identification, verification) into restricted areas.

·         Intelligent agents, dynamic profiling and personalisation.

·         S/W development for wireless (mobile) applications in a variety of business domains.

In the realm of security we believe we could provide significant value to proposals planning to integrate technology elements or expertise from any of the above 4 areas, and in particular elements such as:

    * Access control for restricted areas, for WEB applications, for biometric ID cards, for supply-chain use-cases (e.g. through our biometric authentication device based on palm vein pattern matching techniques, and our in-house s/w suite), etc. Our technology is really secure as the palm vein pattern is unique and impossible to steal it (i.e. it is inside the body).

On the end-user part of a proposed project we have some contacts/partners which we could include in the consortium.

Possible end users where we are active are: airports in Greece, Cyprus, Russia and even the biggest inter-modal logistics centre in the Balkans that is under construction now in the suburbs of Athens and in which we are the technology arm of the consortium running the Logistics Centre.
